Conscious Discipline® is a comprehensive classroom management program and social-emotional intelligence program developed by Dr. Becky Bailey that is based on current brain research, child development information, and developmentally appropriate practices. Conscious Discipline® has been designed to allow adults to make changes in their lives first, so that they, in turn can help children to experience changes in their lives.
Conscious Discipline® empowers teachers and other adults with the Seven Powers for Self-Control. These powers allow adults to see conflict differently. With the Seven Powers of Self-Control, adults develop a new relationship with conflict situations and are able to respond rather than react to each moment as it unfolds. Practicing self-control allows each person to access the highest centers of their brain, namely the frontal lobes. When the frontal lobes of the brain are leading the brain, creativity and problem solving lead to goal setting and goal achievement.
The Seven Basic Skills of Conscious Discipline® emerge from the Seven Powers of Self-Control. These Seven Skills are the only skills an adult needs to effectively transform moments of conflict into moments of teaching and learning. Through these Seven Powers, adults stay in control of themselves and in charge of children.
As adults begin to change their attitudes and behaviors, so will the children in their care. We cannot teach behaviors and skills that we do not possess ourselves. Dr. Becky Bailey, the author of Conscious Discipline originally designed the program for classrooms and parents. However, the Seven Powers of Self-Control and the Seven Basic Skills of Discipline can be applied to all human interactions. Conscious Discipline® training including the Brain Smart™ strategies have been designed for businesses as well.
